Nasdaq
An electronic stock market run by the National Association of Securities Dealers.  Brokers can get price quotes through a computer network and can trade over telephone or computer. The index that covers all the stocks that trade on this market is called the Nasdaq Composite Index. Many of the stocks traded through Nasdaq are in the technology area of the economy.

National Debt
The debt owed by the federal government that is made up of debt obligations such as Treasury bills, Treasury notes, and Treasury bonds.  The national debt is the debt accumulated by the government over many decades, not the Federal Budget Deficit which is excess spending in a fiscal year.

Nationalization
The takeover of a private company’s assets or operations by the government.  In this take over, the company may or may not be compensated for its loss.  Reasons for nationalization are to keep profits inside the country or to preserve a faltering industry.
 
Net Income
The profit a company realizes after all costs, expenses and taxes have been paid. It is calculated by subtracting business, depreciation, interest and tax costs from revenues. Net income is also called earnings or net profit.
 
Net Worth
The amount at which assets exceed liabilities. For an individual it is the total worth of all of his or her possession minus debts.  For a corporation a net worth is the stockholder’s equity or net assets.
